Map of
Sir Francis Drake's Voyage Circumnavigating the Globe
This is an incredible map showing the journey of
Sir Francis Drake in his voyage circumnavigating the Globe. Drake
was the first captain to successfully circumnavigate the globe
(1586-1588). While Magellan's voyage successfully circled the globe
in 1522, Magellan himself was killed on the Journey, giving Drake
the distinction of being the first captain to start and complete
such a voyage. The map shows the path he took and the stops he made.
The map has a number of detailed drawings of his ships, and inset
scenes of interesting things he saw along the way. The map is
ornately illustrated with heavenly beings, sea creatures, and royal
crests. This is an incredible map, which was created in 1595.
